Small Arms - Tipping & Lawden of Birmingham, England, Factory Engraved Model 1 Sharps' Patent Pepperbox pistol, slightly post-Civil War era, manufactured approximately 1867, .22 caliber rim fire, exposed trigger, silver-plated brass receiver with incredibly fine English scroll hand engraving and detail down the center grip strap, "TIPPING & LAWDEN SHARPS' PATENT" engraved on left side of receiver, original acanthus scroll work, gutta percha grips, 2-5/8 inch quad barrels with stippled and floral engraved side details as well as English proof marks, underneath the barrel are additional proof marks and the serial number, s#5455. Includes what appears to be its original fitted presentation box with cleaning rod and key. A lovely unusual pistol for the collectors of Civil War era pieces, Sharps' pieces, or the collectors of fine hand engraving. One of the finest examples of a model 1 Sharps' patent pepperbox still in existence.
CONDITION:
Good rotating hammer action; excellent-plus overall cosmetic condition, excellent rifled bore with light pitting, excellent-plus sliding barrel which retains most of its original blued finish, numerous small dings on frame and barrel as well as scattered areas of oxide, light finish loss to receiver where brass is showing through in high wear areas; trigger still retains most of its original blued finish.
